Leisure Batteries and Marine Batteries

We have a range of top quality, maintenance-free, deep-cycle batteries that are ideal for powering ride-on golf carts and electric runabouts or electrical equipment in caravans, motor homes, boats and RVs.

They are also suitable for use with PV systems because they can be recharged many times. Used in airliners and other modern jet aircraft, Gel batteries are more efficient, more resistant to damage, cannot leak any corrosive fluids and are almost immune to freezing damage.

For Leisure and Marine applications, conventional wet lead acid batteries may seem cheaper, but they can easily spill, often require maintenance and can outgas noxious fumes, especially if they are being tossed around at sea or on the road.    Far better for any maritime or leisure application is an AGM or Sealed Gel battery type.   These efficient units offer a maintenance free, non- spillable, non-gassing power source with a faster recharge time and very long life as well as being lighter in weight than the equivalent wet lead acid unit.
Deep discharge Gel batteries are also suitable for use with solar panels and other Photo Voltaic systems because of their ability to be recharged many times.

Marine batteries are at the heart of all pleasure craft DC electrical systems.  The vast majority of all boats have relatively simple 12 volt systems consisting of banks of one, two or sometimes four batteries connected in parallel.  Larger yachts may have 24 or 32 volt systems.   A true marine battery will tolerate up to 50% discharge without too many ill effects.  A regular wet lead acid car battery would quickly die at such discharge rates so beware of batteries labelled "auto/marine".

Leisure batteries are generally intended for use with products such as TV's, videos and a wide range of other appliances. Most of these applications require a constant flow of power and it is for this reason we would recommend deep cycle batteries.  Deep cycle batteries can take thousands of charging cycles and have a much greater service life than the other types, but tend not to deliver great cranking or burst power.  They are very good at providing consistent levels of reliable power over long periods of time.
